Description Natural magnesium carbonate "magnesite" is used in the manufacture of fireproofing materials, and in the manufacture of dry cell batteries. Fused magnesia is used in the manufacture of refractory materials, and as a fluxing agent in the manufacture of steel. Dead-burned "sintered" magnesia, whether or not containing small quantities of other oxides added before sintering, is used in the manufacture of refractory materials. Other magnesium oxide, whether or not pure, is used in the manufacture of refractory materials.
