2024 Conference on Economic Complexity
Join us in Budapest, Hungary. July 10-12.
Economic complexity is a vibrant and constantly evolving field, with new theories, methodologies, and applications emerging at a rapid pace. To keep up with the latest developments in this field, the Center for Collective Learning is thrilled to announce the upcoming Conference in Economic Complexity (CEC), which will take place at Corvinus University of Budapest from July 10 to July 12, 2024.
We invite scholars and practitioners working on economic complexity to submit papers or register for the conference and the accompanying summer school at https://complexity.world.
This year's event promises a platform for showcasing research and a unique opportunity to engage with a global community of experts. The conference will start with the Summer School on Economic Complexity (SSEC) on July 10, a one-day workshop conducted by Professor Cesar A. Hidalgo. This unique educational experience will be followed by two days of presentations and discussions on the latest economic complexity research on July 11 and 12.
The conference will conclude on the evening of July 11 with a Policy Impact Panel, co-hosted by Datawheel and the OEC, focused on exploring the application of economic complexity across multiple regions. The panel will highlight work done in the context of Mexico’s Smart Diversification Strategy, on the economic integration of the South Caucasus Region, and in Brazil, where Sebrae has been using economic complexity methods for small businesses. The panel will also include a representative from Abu Dhabi's Statistics Center, who will share insights on benchmarking Abu Dhabi's economic complexity, integrating these insights into strategic planning, and pursuing economic diversification beyond the emirate’s traditional reliance on oil and gas.
The dialogue will shift to the hurdles of implementing economic complexity, like data scarcity, converting insights into practical policies, and adapting to local conditions. It will examine how enhancing data collection, embracing interdisciplinary approaches, and weaving in local insights can elevate economic complexity into an actionable framework, facilitating the development of bespoke, impactful strategies for sustainable growth.
The CEC aims to present cutting-edge research and foster discussions that can inspire new ideas, facilitate partnerships, and expand the understanding of economic complexity. Attendees will explore a wide range of studies and initiatives worldwide, sparking meaningful connections and debates.
